Hosting a community xTool workshop: what to expect

At Boyne Valley Laser Studio, we welcome enquiries from schools, Scout groups, Men's Sheds, community organisations and small groups interested in laser engraving and digital fabrication.

Rather than running a fixed calendar of regular community workshops, we consider sessions individually based on the group's interests, available equipment, supervision requirements and studio capacity.

What a workshop can involve

Each session is shaped around the group. Depending on what's agreed, it can include:

• An introduction to laser cutting, engraving and marking technologies.
• An overview of materials and practical applications.
• Demonstrations of suitable equipment.
• Basic artwork preparation and design workflows.
• Supervised practical activities where appropriate.
• Discussion of how digital fabrication can support school, community or creative projects.

Participation and safety

Not every session involves participants operating a laser, and a take-home piece isn't guaranteed. What each person does depends on the proposed activity, their age, supervision and safety arrangements, and the format we agree with the group in advance.

Availability and charges

Community workshops are considered by arrangement rather than offered on a fixed published schedule. Group size, duration, location, activities and any applicable charges are all agreed before a session is confirmed. As Ireland's first xTool Pro Hub, the studio has a busy production and demonstration schedule, so availability varies.

Community sessions and operator training

Community and educational enquiries are considered individually. Businesses, makers and operators seeking structured instruction can also book our paid private or small-group training services.
