60W MOPA fibre + 40W diode galvo
xTool F2 Ultra Dual — Hands-On Review
The F2 Ultra Dual is the workhorse we reach for when a job demands fast, deep marking on metal alongside fine high-contrast detail on coated surfaces. The dual-source galvo combines a 60 W MOPA fibre with a 40 W diode, and that combination is what makes it genuinely production-ready rather than a hobby galvo with a power figure.

Who it's for
Where this machine actually earns its keep.
- Small businesses producing branded metal gifts, awards, or tooling at volume.
- Jewellers and metalwork studios who need colour marking on stainless and titanium.
- Workshops adding fibre capability without losing diode versatility for coated materials.
Strengths
- MOPA pulse-tuning produces consistent colour marks on stainless and titanium.
- Galvo speed is in a different league to a gantry CO₂ for repeat marking and serialisation.
- Quick swap between fibre and diode without re-fixturing for most jobs.
Honest limits
- Marking area is fixed — large or long parts need rotary or step-and-repeat.
- Fibre is not a wood/acrylic cutter. Pair it with a CO₂ if cutting is core to your work.
- Colour marking on titanium is repeatable but still demands time on test panels before a production run.
Materials
What we actually mark, cut and engrave on it.
- Stainless steel: deep black anneal, full colour palette via MOPA pulse-tuning.
- Anodised aluminium: clean white/grey marks at high speed.
- Titanium: full colour range with careful pass and frequency control.
- Coated/painted metals: high-contrast lifts with the diode source.

Frequently asked
- Will the F2 Ultra Dual cut wood or acrylic?
- No — it's a galvo marker, not a cutter. For cutting wood, acrylic, leather or paper you want a CO₂ gantry machine like the xTool P2S or P3 alongside it.
- Can it do colour marking out of the box?
- Yes, but expect to spend real time dialling in pulse, frequency and pass settings per material. The MOPA source is what makes consistent colour possible; the test panel work is on the operator.
- Do you use one in production?
- Yes. We run an F2 Ultra Dual in the studio for branded metal gifts, awards, jewellery marking and high-volume serialisation work.
