The two questions we get every week are: 'which xTool should I buy?' and 'will one machine cover everything I need?'. The honest answer is that the F2 Ultra Dual and P2S do genuinely different things — and a serious production studio usually ends up with both.
What the F2 Ultra Dual is for
It's a galvo with two laser sources — a 60W MOPA fibre and a 40W diode — sharing one optical path. That dual setup is the whole point: fibre for metal, diode for coated and dark surfaces, with zero swap time.
- Deep metal marks: stainless tumblers, knives, jewellery, awards.
- Colour on titanium: MOPA's tunable pulses unlock the full palette.
- Production throughput: small parts cycle in seconds, not minutes.
What the P2S is for
The P2S is a 55W CO₂ gantry with a large bed. It cuts. The galvo machines do not.
- Cut work: acrylic signage, plywood props, leather panels, fabric.
- Large engravings: anything bigger than the galvo's field.
- Mixed materials: wood, paper, cork, rubber, slate.
The honest recommendation
If you sell branded metal products, start with the F2 Ultra Dual. If you sell cut and engraved signage, start with the P2S. If you're scaling a real production studio, plan for both within 12 months.
